- IOP OCTOBER 2005 NEWSLETTERPosted on: 2005-11-10IOP President, Eddie Gayton, has resigned due to personal time conflicts. Vice President Mark Lyon is acting President until a replacement is found. Anyone interested in the position, please attend the next general meeting or contact Mark Lyon at 360-5440.
There is a cancer growing in our neighborhood! Recently a drug & alcohol rehab facility has opened its doors on the Isle of Palms! Gulfcoast Recovery has opened shop at 250 115th Avenue. The Treasure Island Code Enforcement Dpt. has already cited this and other properties, owned by the now notorious Matthew Schwarz, for violating city codes. Gulf Coast patients do not change their address with the DMV so any sex offenders are exempt from registering with the Sheriff’s office. If you care about this important issue please come to the next general meeting. If you would like to head the committee looking into this matter please contact IOP Vice President Mark Lyon immediately at 360-5440.
Meals on Wheels is experiencing a shortage of funds and needs your help. Commissioner Gayton is working on how to handles private donations. If you are interested in donating for this worthy cause contact Commissioner Gayton at 360-0590. Thanks!
Help Wanted:
Wanted, Civic Association President, must be charming, energetic, and fun to work with. Organizational & planning skills a plus! Perfect for a retired person or self-employed individual who wants to give something back to their community. Must be willing to accept criticism (thick skinned) and work for free! This is the best thankless job you could ever have! Apply in person most evenings at 11300 2nd Street East, POC Mark Lyon 360-5440.
Upcoming Events-
We need to start forming committees for upcoming events. Christmas is right around the corner! Also, the annual garage sale is closer than you think! Ideally we would like to have our civic association involved in as many events as possible but we need YOU to participate to make that happen. Our part of paradise desperately needs support from kind souls who want to enhance the beauty of our community and create fellowship among neighbors. If you have a little or a lot of time YOUR Isle of Palms Civic Association needs your help. Take an hour to show up at the next general meeting. We welcome your input!
Crime Watch-
Now that we have a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility on our island Crime Watch is more important than ever! Many pleas have been made in the past for folks to join with little or no response. Crime Watch does not require you to maintain a set schedule.. You can do it at your leisure when taking strolls with your sweetie or walking your dog (for some people this may be the same thing-joke). The training is offered free by the Treasure Island Police Department and only takes an hour to complete. Lenny Kaul is collecting applications and is trying to form the next training class. Please contact him at 363-7946 for an application or stop by the police department and pick one up there. Be a part of the solution to keeping our streets safe for all of us who live on the Isle of Palms!
Trash Woes-
Talk about hot button issues! My normally passive Grandmother is just freaking out over the prospect of losing “her” garbage men! She just LOVES the great service they provide her. I have to admit we have the best trash service in the State! Many IOP residents have expressed similar opinions to me about our trash & recycling service. So if everybody loves what we have then why is CTI testing a new auto loading truck on Paradise Island? If you do not want to start having to spend extra time and effort “right-sizing” your trash or making a special appointment for pick-ups that do not conform to the proscribed container make your voice heard! We will discuss the matter at the next general meeting but telephone calls and letters speak loudly in a small town like ours. Please contact City Hall and let them know just how you feel about this matter (pro or con). Call or write the City Manger, Ralph Stone at:
City of Treasure Island
120 -128th Avenue
Treasure Island Florida 33706
(727) 547-4575
Cards & Flowers-
Is there a member of your family in the hospital? Has there been a recent birth or death? Please contact Nancy Walker , our new Cards & Flowers person, at 367-9223. We care about our neighbors and Nancy will be there to remind us that we always have the love and support of the IOP community in times of joy or sadness. Thanks Nancy!
Email:lencoboss@aol.com - Enforce Treasure Island City Codes-Lawbreakers Abound!Posted on: 2005-11-10There is a reported drug rehabilitaion facility in operation at 250 - 115th Street East on the Isle of Palms. This is against city codes as the property is not zoned for this use and the operation itself, Gulf Coast Recovery, has not applied for the approriate licenses to operate such a business with the State of Florida DCF.
Please contact your Commissioner or City Hall and express your opinion!
